Cogenerating Electricity and Heat for Our Community

BioPur Light & Power LLC, is the first commercial application of electrical and heat cogeneration from biodiesel in Connecticut. It is also one of the first in the nation to generate data on such an extensive level, from emissions to electrical quality with concerns to varying fuel blend ratios. By collecting accurate and useable data we are ensuring that optimization models will be built for other similar projects all across the country.

This clean electrical and thermal generation is the final step of BioPur Inc’s overall vision. It is with this action that the energy cycle is completed, producing a net zero pollution increase in carbon emissions from burning biodiesel. The cogeneration of electricity and heat completes the cycle of turning a waste product into a valuable commodity.

This project was in part funded by the United States Department of Energy (USDOE), cleverly named BioWatz. For an in-depth examination of the BioWatz program please visit www.BioWatz.com. Here you will be able to explore all the facets of the project including our education outreach, analytical data collection, partners and contacts, as well as general info about biodiesel and electrical generation.
